Mass Concrete Underpinning
It is a traditional method of underpinning that involves digging particular sections under the foundation before being filled with high-quality concrete. It includes working on one section at a time since the method requires no heavy equipment, so it works best in congested construction areas.
Mini-Piled Underpinning
Mini-piled underpinning is a highly preferable method these days as it allows for the weight transfer to more significant levels compared to other methods. In this process, steel piles are drilled or driven into the existing foundation. The cavity within the steel frame is then filled with resin or concrete.
Beam and Base Underpinning
It shares similarities with the mass concrete underpinning, however, with a slight difference. The excavated sections are not entirely filled with concrete but instead include strategic placement of mass concrete bases.
Piled Raft Underpinning
Piled raft underpinning is a complex method and requires greater precision. However, it provides immense support as it combines a raft of concrete with the additional support of mini-piling.

Foundation underpinning simply means to reinforce the existing foundation. The process enhances its load-bearing capacity and longevity, levels the soil, and removes the cracks.
What are the methods of foundation underpinning?
Foundation underpinning can be done using various types and methods of underpinning, depending on the soil conditions and project requirements. However, the most common methods of underpinning include:
- Mass-concrete underpinning method
- Jack pile underpinning method
- Pile method of underpinning
- Angle piling for underpinning
How do I know I need a foundation repair?
You can observe the following signs or may ask for an expert survey to examine if you need a foundation repair:
- Cracks in the foundation or walls.
- Sagging or uneven foundation.
- Misaligned doors.
- Drainage issues.
- Constant mildew smell in the basement or walking area.
When do I need underpinning?
Underpinning can be done:
- If your foundation is sinking.
